Terms of Service

1. ELIGIBILITY

If you are under the age required to provide consent in your country, you must have parental or guardian permission to use the Service. By using Pookiebase, you confirm that you meet this requirement.

2. ACCOUNTS

To use certain features, you must create an account. You agree to:

• Provide accurate and complete information
• Keep your login credentials secure
• Be responsible for all activity under your account

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password. We are not liable for losses caused by unauthorized access resulting from your failure to safeguard your credentials.

3. SERVICE DESCRIPTION

Pookiebase allows users to:

• Create and manage a personal book collection (free users are subject to collection size limits)
• Maintain a wishlist
• Search books by ISBN
• Retrieve book metadata via the Google Books API
• Export their book data
• Add manual books stored locally on their device

When you search or scan by ISBN, limited request data necessary to retrieve book metadata is sent to the Google Books API. Metadata may be cached in our database to improve performance and reduce repeated API requests. Manually added books remain stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to our servers.

4. ACCEPTABLE USE

You agree not to:

• Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disrupt the Service
• Use automated systems (bots, scrapers, scripts) to access the Service
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to accounts or infrastructure
• Use the Service for unlawful purposes

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

4A. IN-APP PURCHASES

Certain features of the Service may require a one-time in-app purchase ("Pro Upgrade").

The Pro Upgrade unlocks additional functionality including, but not limited to:

• Customization options such as app icons, colors, and themes
• Increased limits on the number of books that can be stored in collections or wishlists
• The ability to add books in bulk by scanning multiple ISBNs and adding them at once
• Other premium features that may be introduced in future updates

Payments are processed through the platform from which you downloaded the app, including Apple's App Store or Google Play, using the applicable in-app purchase system for that platform.

We do not collect or store your full payment details, such as payment card numbers or billing addresses.

All purchases are final except where refunds are required under applicable law or are granted through the refund process of the platform from which the purchase was made, including Apple's App Store or Google Play.

If you reinstall the app or change devices, previously purchased upgrades may be restored through the "Restore Purchases" option in the app settings, provided you are using the same platform account used for the original purchase, such as the same Apple ID or Google account.

We may update or refine the specific premium features included in the Pro Upgrade as the Service evolves, but we will not intentionally remove core purchased entitlements without a valid operational, legal, or technical reason.

Additional terms and conditions of the Apple App Store or Google Play may apply to purchases made through those platforms.

5. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

The Service, including its design, software, and branding, is the property of Black Cat Studios. Book metadata and cover images retrieved via the Google Books API remain the property of their respective copyright holders. We do not claim ownership of third-party book data.

You may not copy, redistribute, or commercially exploit any part of the Service without prior written permission.

6. ACCOUNT TERMINATION

You may delete your account at any time within the app:

Account → Scroll to bottom → Remove Account

Password confirmation is required. Upon deletion:

• Your account data will be removed from our active systems
• Your user-book associations will be deleted
• Certain data may remain in secure backup systems for a limited period before being automatically deleted

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts if users violate these Terms.

7. DATA EXPORT

You may export your book collection at any time using the in-app export feature. You are responsible for safely storing exported data.

8. SERVICE AVAILABILITY

We aim to provide a reliable Service but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, technical issues, or circumstances beyond our control. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time. Purchased features may change as the Service evolves, but users will retain access to purchased entitlements unless the Service itself is discontinued.

9. DISCLAIMER

Digital purchases are tied to the user's platform account and may require an internet connection to validate purchase status.

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not guarantee:

• The accuracy of third-party book metadata
• That the Service will be free of bugs or errors
• That data loss will never occur

You use the Service at your own risk.

10. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Black Cat Studios shall not be liable for:

• Indirect or consequential damages
• Loss of data
• Loss of profits
• Service interruptions

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability where it cannot be excluded under applicable law.

11. CHANGES TO THESE TERMS

We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will include a revised date at the top. Continued use of the Service after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

12. GOVERNING LAW

These Terms are governed by the laws of Belgium. Any disputes arising in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts in Belgium.
